Provincial Online Stores

Each province operates its own online cannabis store. These are government-run or government-authorized platforms that deliver to addresses within the province. Most require age verification at delivery.

For Visitors

Online ordering works best for residents with a Canadian delivery address. Most visitors will purchase in-person at retail stores. However, online stores are useful for:

  • Browsing menus and prices before visiting a physical store
  • Click-and-collect (ordering online for in-store pickup) at many retailers through platforms like Dutchie
  • Delivery to accommodation if staying at a residence for an extended period

Government vs. Private Retail

The retail model varies significantly:

  • Government only: Quebec (SQDC), Nova Scotia (NSLC), PEI (PEI Cannabis) — these provinces sell exclusively through government stores
  • Private only: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba — no government retail stores
  • Mixed: Ontario, BC, New Brunswick, Newfoundland — combination of government online and private in-store retail

Ontario's model is unique: the OCS serves as the sole wholesaler for all 1,799 private stores and operates the only government online store. All legal cannabis in Ontario flows through OCS.
